ABS year 5&6 steel bands spent a sunny morning in Brixton market on Friday playing for the opening of the Love Your Market festival. Here are some happy moments to share
Welcome to the ABS music blog. Here you can see what the children at ABS have been doing in music lessons and at musical events.
On Wednesday March 22nd the Brass Band performed at the Junior Orchestras Concert at the Royal Festival Hall, part of the Lambeth Music Festival 2017.
Our concert was 1.30-2.30 and at 2.30 there was a terrorist attack in Westminster and the hall was evacuated. We felt lucky that we did our concert because it was really good.
The band played ‘Supermario Theme’, ‘Wallace and Gromit Theme’ and ‘If I Didn’t Have You’ from Monsters Inc. At the end there was a joint piece, ‘Sway’, played by all of the orchestras together, over 200 musicians playing together was an amazing experience.
Our players deserve to feel very proud and pleased with their performance.
The recorder ensemble beautifully accompanied the Easter service at St Anselm’s on the last day of term, Tuesday 4th April 2017.
Other highlights of the service were some of year 5 expertly acting out the Easter story and the choir singing ‘You Raise Me Up’.
ABS choir performed at Lambeth Music Festival on March 29th 2017. We had to leave school after lunch to get to the rehearsal by 2.30. We got to Westminster Bridge just before the 1 minute silence to remember the terrorist attack just one week ago. Everyone felt excited before going onstage, and when it was our turn the choir sounded and looked amazing. Really great. Luckily there will be a professionally produced video we can watch when it’s ready. We were all very proud of our choir and the other choirs were really good too.
Our choir walking to Tomkyn’s House last December to sing Christmas Carols for the elderly residents of our local sheltered housing estate.
Our brass band leading the carnival procession around the local streets last June. As you can see, the weather was beautiful and the children look very colourful in their carnival costumes!
Last March, 30 children from year 2 were chosen to perform on the Royal Festival Hall stage as part of the Lambeth Schools Music Festival. It was an amazing day - everyone from Maple and Cedar class came along and enjoyed the concert, whether singing on-stage or from the comfy seats in the auditorium.
